FF. First Things First: Using the Newspaper to Teach the Five Freedoms of the First Amendment

Produced in partnership with the Missouri Bar Association’s Law-Related Education program, the guide allows students to analyze events in the newspaper and form conclusions, incorporating the five freedoms of the First Amendment. The five units are divided into elementary, middle and high school activities complete with goals and evaluations. For all grades.


GG. Fitting In

This guide offers lessons and reproducible activity sheets that use the newspaper to explore issues of peer pressure and fitting in with others. For grades 4-12.


HH. Global Connections - International

Updated from the Global Connections teacher’s guide offered in previous years, this edition focuses on people, places and perspectives on an international level, and follows the National Geographic Society’s geography standards. Includes a map covering the Iraq and Middle East regions. For grades 4-12.

Developed after the events of September 11, this guide uses examples from various periods of U.S. history, demonstrating how our nation has faced disasters, wars, and other challenges before and has rebounded with unity and resolve to overcome them. For grades 3-12.
