Veterans Day Reading Comprehension

Download our in-print stories about veterans from our area and their reading comprehension companion to use in your classroom this Veterans Day! Check out STLtoday for additional veterans stories as well as the video interviews for Pfc. Mendel Rosenberg, Sgt. Darnell Cooper and Ben Stabler.

Additional Veterans Day Activities:

  • Ask your students to read stories about Veterans Day in the newspaper and underline quotes that illustrate patriotism.
  • Invite a veteran to speak to your class about their experiences. Ask students to write five questions to ask the service member prior to their visit.
  • Ask your students look through the newspaper for stories about world conflict. If the United States military is in any way, ask students to identify the U.S. role in the conflict and how that pertains to our service members.
  • Hold a classroom drive for suggested items to be donated to active service members overseas. Have your students write hand-written thank you notes to include in the donation box.
