Study Skills Summer 2008 SUMMER SCHOOL
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch NIE program has been delivering newspapers to classrooms throughout the bi-state metro area for more than 20 years. This invaluable and highly effective program encourages use of the daily newspaper in classroom settings as a virtual textbook for learning, helping students develop necessary academic and life skills; from reading and writing to math, geography and science, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. As a tool of instruction, the newspaper can strengthen teaching in every content area. Participating in NIE can help teachers broaden students learning sphere making tomorrows lessons out of todays text. BACK TO SCHOOL 2008/2009 Make a difference in student achievement this school year with the Post-Dispatch Newspapers in Education (NIE) program. Studies have shown that students who use the newspaper in their classroom do, on average, 30 percent better on standardized tests than students who do not use the newspaper. Plus, NIE makes it easy and convenient to use the newspaper in your classroom. Each NIE order of 200 newspapers or more makes you eligible to receive six FREE curriculum guides through our rewards program. These curriculum guides contain ready-made lessons and activities you can do with your students. The NIE special educator rate is only 12 ½ cents per daily copy and .42 cents for Sunday. Subscribe today by calling (314) 340-8913 or (800) 365-0820 ext. 8913.
