Mehlville's Chris Gaines heads national superintendent group

Mehlville Superintendent Chris Gaines has taken the reins of the national School Superintendents Association for the upcoming academic year.

Gaines has been a member of the association's leadership for 10 years and has served on its executive committee since 2014.

Gaines came to Mehlville in July 2015 after serving seven years as the Wright City superintendent, and seven years before that as superintendent of Crawford County schools.

During his career in education, Gaines also has worked as a high school principal, math and science teacher, golf and basketball coach and school bus driver.

"I often refer to superintendents as champions for children," association chief Daniel A. Domenech said. "For what he has accomplished throughout his career, Chris Gaines is a champion’s champion."
