Parkway and Rockwood students earn Missouri AP award for 2017
A Parkway student and a Rockwood student, both from Chesterfield, earned the Missouri Advanced Placement Scholar Award this year.
The state-level award goes to one male student and one female student from each state who earned the most AP test scores of 3 or higher and the highest average score on all AP tests taken.
Haran Kumar, who attends Parkway West High School, and Lucy Zhu, who attends Marquette High School in the Rockwood district, earned this year's Missouri award.
“Congratulations to Haran and Lucy for showing exemplary college-level achievement,” said Missouri Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven in a statement. “Missouri is working to expand AP opportunities so that other students who have shown an aptitude for these challenging courses have access to them.”
About 22,000 Missouri students took AP exams in 2017, which was about 1,000 more than the previous year, and 21,795 earned at least a passing score, according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Missouri students took 35,000 exams this year.
