Ferguson-Florissant school board to appeal judge's order for cumulative voting

The Ferguson-Florissant School District board will challenge a judge’s order that halted board elections on the premise that the board’s election process was stacked against African-Americans.

“In the time since the lawsuit was filed, District voters have elected two additional African-American board members,” said Board President Donna Paulette-Thurman in a statement. “We are confident the present process is lawful and provides an equal opportunity for all candidates.”

STL dominates list of Missouri's best private high schools

If you want to get a heated discussion going among private-school graduates in STL, check out a list by an online publication.

"Niche" is a Pittsburgh-based website that analyze public data and reviews to produce rankings for U.S. school and neighborhoods.

One of their lists is: "2017 Best Private High Schools in Missouri."

Eight of the top 10 schools, and the top 4, are in STL:

University governing board picks Clayton attorney as chairman

BELLERIVE ACRES • The University of Missouri Board of Curators unanimously approved a new board chair Friday morning during its meeting on the St. Louis campus.

Maurice "Marcy" Graham, a Clayton resident and president of the law firm Gray, Ritter & Graham, P.C., will lead the board during 2017.

Graham is a Central Methodist University and Mizzou alumnus. He was appointed to the board in 2015 by Gov. Jay Nixon and approved earlier this year by the Missouri Senate.

St. Louis Public Schools to abandon 12 lead-contaminated drinking fountains and sinks

A dozen drinking fountains and sinks at 10 St. Louis Public School campuses are so contaminated with lead that they are being removed permanently from service.

Eight drinking fountains also have failed the district’s test for lead for the second or third time, Roger CayCe, the district’s deputy superintendent of operations, said at the district’s special administrative board meeting Thursday.

Those fountains are at Clay Elementary, Fanning Middle, Gateway Middle, Henry Elementary and Meramec Elementary schools, he said.
